The following books are books that have become invaluable to me in taking images of wildlife. Besides having competent photographic skills and patience the most important is information about the animal that you are photographing. There are thousands of books about animals but a few stand out. Most noteably are the 3 books by Richard D. Estes.

The Safari Companion

The Safari Companion:
A Guide to Watching
African Animals

Dots National Audobon Society Field Guide to African Wildlife

National Audubon
Society Field Guide
to African Wildlife

The Behavior Guide to African Mammals

The Behavior Guide
to African Mammals

The Safari Companion I am on my third copy of this book as it is my bible on African mammals. Richard Estes provides the reader with an unbelievable amount of information about the mammals of southern africa. When observing the mammals in a zoo, wildlife habitat or africa you can watch the animal digging dirt up with its horns and the Safari Companion can explain the reasons for such behavior from the animal.

The next book is an expasion and should be studied whe not observing.

The Behavior Guide to African Mammals This book has really indepth information on the mammals. By learning their behavior you can photograph them more effectively.

National Audobon Society Field Guide to African Wildlife You would be surprised at the number of times that I have heard a Rhino called a Hippo or a leopard called a cheetah. Some people believe that bears and tigers live in africa. This book provides the user with images of the creatures that you might and far cheaper than buying something in Africa.
